Fr Tan's Ordination

Home Up
.

Fr Tan chose this as the symbol of his Ordination.

The Brimson Centre, St Augustine's College Brookvale,
is ready for its first ordination.

Parishioners from St James Coorparoo gathered early!

Silvia and Patricia spoke with Fr John McGlone.

The choirs warmed up.

Master-of-Ceremonies, Fr Joseph,
led the Entrance Procession.

Deacon Tan arrived

as did many of Tan's fellows.

Prior Provincial, Fr Tony Banks OSA, arrived

followed by the Most Rev Bishop David Walker DD.

Deacon Tan joined his brothers

while Fr Peter Jones OSA continued to lead Tan towards his Ordination.

Bishop David began the Mass of Ordination.

The First Reading was read in Vietnamese

and was followed by the Second Reading

and the Gospel.

Deacon Tan was presented as a Candidate for Ordination

and there followed an Examination of the Candidate.

Bishop David then paused and spoke about the consequences for Tan
that will follow his Ordination.

This was a highlight of the ceremony as Bishop David
became an extraordinarily perceptive, yet gentle, teacher.

Deacon Tan absorbed every word
of Bishop David's address

and then Deacon Tan was called

to his Promise of Obedience.

Tan prostrated himself during the Litany of Saints

and then began the Laying on of Hands, firstly by Bishop David,

by Prior Provincial, Fr Tony Banks,

and then Fr Joseph led Tan to his fellows.

Fr John McGlone,

Fr Peter Hayes,

Fr Dave Austin

and Fr Abel van der Veer all blest Tan

as his fellows chanted "Veni Sancti Spiritu" in blessing

before Tan left to receive the blessing
of Fr Pat Fahey.

Bishop David then began

the Prayers of Consecration of Tan.

Then Fr Tony joined Tan's parents in assisting Tan to don his stole and chasuble.

A father is so proud of his son's decision

and his mother is overcome with love

before Fr Tony leads Tan back to Bishop David

and the Anointing of Hands.

Deacon Tan's ordination as a priest is complete

and Father Tan waits with Bishop David

as the Presentation of Gifts

is begun

and the altar is prepared.

Bishop David offers Fr Tan a Sign of Peace

which Fr Tan then shares with his fellows including

Fr Dave                                                            Fr Peter

Fr John                                               and Fr Abel

before Fr Tan left the altar area to share with Fr Pat.

The Prayer over the Gifts was said

and then the Eucharistic Prayer commenced

leading to the Consecration

and Fr Tan continued the Eucharistic Prayer.

Fr Tan offered a very proud mother a Sign of Peace

and shared his joy with everyone

before preparing for Communion.

At the end of the Mass, Prior Provincial Fr Tony Banks
delivered an Address of Welcome to Fr Tan

and noted that the day also marked
the fiftieth anniversary of the Ordination of Fr Peter Hayes.

Very many people were thanked

before Fr Tony presented Fr Tan with a certificate
of Papal Blessing.

Fr Tan eventually found his notes

and thanked, in particular, his parents.

And suddenly, Fr Tan remembered to thank his Prior Provincial!

Fr Tony was presented with a memento by Fr Tan's parents

before Bishop David gave the Final Blessing

and everyone left to join in a celebration.
