Rest in Peace

Home Up

Of all the members of the Order of St Augustine who have served God in the parishes and schools of our Province, just nine have gone to their reward and are buried in Brisbane's Nudgee Cemetery.

Please pray for the souls of these nine men of God.

The nine Augustinian gravesites are together.
This section of the cemetery, adjacent to the intersection of
St Vincents Road and Childs Road,
is reserved for the priests and religious who have served God.

Please pray for the soul of
Bro Francis O'Sullivan.
Francis fought in both World Wars, gained a law degree and practised law before finally being admitted as a candidate in 1957.
Before he could leave for Rome to complete his studies for the priesthood, he died in Brisbane in 1958.

Please pray for the soul of
Fr Dominic Fogarty.
Dominic was plagued with health problems from the time he was in Rome studying for the priesthood.
He arrived in Australia in 1957 and served parishes in Echuca and Mareeba before succumbing to further illness
in 1959.

Please pray for the soul of
Fr Joseph Condon.
After service in World War II, Joseph studied in England, Ireland and Rome.  On his return to Australia in 1959, he served the people of St James Coorparoo before going to St Joseph's in Cairns.  He took ill and died there soon after.

Please pray for the soul of
Fr Patrick Doyle.
Patrick was born in Ballyling Co Carlow.  He came to Australia in 1933 and to Echuca.  Later in the thirties, he was sent to the parishes of the Atherton Tableland where he served the Atherton and Mareeba parishes.  He came to Whinstanes and Coorparoo before travelling to the USA in search of a cure for the disease that wracked his body.  The Augustinians had a special bedroom built for him on the ground floor of St James Priory.

Please pray for the soul of
Bro James Fitzgerald.
Bro Greg, as he was known to all, came to the Augustinians after an early life in cattle.  He was accepted into the Order in 1922 but did not return to Australia until the outbreak of World War II.  He served a year in Cairns before being sent to Villanova College and St James Coorparoo where he was reknown as a priory receptionist and as an elite wood carver.

Please pray for the soul of
Fr Les Seary.
The newly ordained Fr Seary spent his first years as an RAF Chaplain before being sent to Nigeria as a missionary.  When the Australian Province was established, Fr Les was recalled to St James parish and to Villanova College and, finally, to Cairns.  At his first opportunity, he took a posting to return to his missionary work in Nigeria.  Apart from short holidays, Fr Les remained in Africa until bad health forced his return to Brisbane.

Please pray for the soul of
Fr Thomas Mescall.
Thomas arrived in Australia in 1962.  While he spent tome in parishes in North Queensland and in Victoria, Thomas's long-term service was to Villanova College.  It seems appropriate, therefore, that his years of retirement were also spent in the Community of that college.

Please pray for the soul of
Fr Phillip Kehoe.

Phillip arrived in Australia in 1948 and served the people of parishes in Victoria and North Queensland.  He also served as Chaplain of the nearby Princess Alexandra Hospital while stationed at Coorparoo.  Phillip had a beautiful, trained voice and made appearances on Irish and Australian television as well as making records of sacred music and Irish ballads.

Please pray for the soul of
Fr David Brimson.
Most members of the Province serve in Victoria and Queensland and even in New South Wales as well.  Father Dave did all this and acted as Chaplain for Griffith University in Brisbane;  but he also spent arduous months travelling in western NSW and throughout the remote regions of Western Australia in a non-stop program to update religious and parishioners following the changes of Vatican II.
